==========================================================
Its funny, it really is.
Its funny how the smallest population has the biggest influence and has the least respect.
Yeah, speaking about the Indians in general.
We arent fair(skin colour), its a known fact.
But when you actually think about the Indian people holistically you will realise that the non-Indians adore us so much whatever we have they would want to.
I wanted this post up for a long time now, so bear with me, regardless the controversy it may result in.
When I think about Indians in general, the thing that comes to my mind is the sharp features most of us have.

From the big eyes which seldom needs to be defined, from the sharp nose to the nice set of teeth and blossom lips.
Yes most of us are blessed with that, but despite that, the non-Indians who really try their mighty best to look as good as they can with the help of make-up fail miserably.
Whats worse is the fact that the Indians are the ones who were the experts in the area of cosmetics and so on.
To my knowledge, I remember how brides during Indian weddings would have a make-up artiste to dress them up and make them look prettier, but then make-up then wasnt as attractive as it was to the non-Indians, but now look at every teenager, specifically the Chinese ones who try and use trunkloads of eye-liner only to have their eyes look scarier than ever.
And no, chillax, before ya'll start assuming I am getting racist, these are only facts, facts you can see for yourself with your naked eyes.
Another example would be how most Indians do not have straight hair naturally unless rebonded.

And we would often have people point or look at disgust at our curly hair.
But look, or think now why are so many non-Indians having their hair permed?
Curly seems to be the bomb now.
Wow, we had curly hair and got bad remarks and now its the fashion to have curly hair?
One things about Indians both man and woman is the fact we have outer eyelids, meaning our eyelashes naturally curls up too.
So fake eye lashes are never needed but a touch of mascara alone would define it to it maximum.
But now you see all the Chinese girls in attempt of having their eye lashes be as curly as ours.
Well we have all of these but not the main thing to make people realise our worth.
Besides that, how else have the Indians influence you say?
Well think of the most basic need we all need.

Food, I have personally seen, heard about people appreciating Indian food to the core.
From thosai to briyani to sambal, oh yes we have the best spices and ingredients to cook up the right dish for your tastebuds, but the appreciation we get is only in the food.
As Indians, we don't have much rights in Singapore, which is due to our small population but still...
I get irritated when I see a Chinese lady standing next to an Indian one immediately pinch her nose indicating WHAT PRECISELY?
That Indians stink?
Well, just for the records, we are the people who SHOWER early in the morning before going out of the house. We have to cause, its in us that we wake up in the morning, and we shower before praying and then leaving home after praying.
We don't go to food courts without having a shower as a family and have breakfast/lunch.
What appreciation am I talking about then?
Well, just take the Classifieds and start reading.
Bloody hell, atleast 90% of the job requirements states, 'Bilingual in English and Mandarin.'
For fuck's sake, is this a Chinese country?
Honestly, I get so mad reading these.
My brother was being so funny the other day.
This was the conversation between him and my mum.
Bro : 'Ma, do you know now Indians, and Malays/Muslims dont have to work?
Mum : 'What ? WHat you talking?'
Bro : 'Ya what, government don't want to trouble us la,see all the ads on the papers, must learn how to speak Mandarin, and some even requires you to write in that language. So we don't need to work la.'
I burst into laughs upon hearing that, as funny as it was to me, I sensed the frustration in my brother's voice.
On what basis do these companies make such demands?
Cause 70% of Singapore consists of Chinese?
Its not fair, its never going to be fair.
This was one reason why I began to understand this language. I would say I understand 70% of this language now.
If I want to ever get a job, I didnt want to be crossed only because I didnt know a language despite having all the qualifications.
I truly feel my brother's anger, he is someone with a degree with an International record.
But he's finding trouble getting a job because of this DEMAND of being able to speak/write Chinese.
And if anyone of you guys are thinking, 'Then go India la!', then just shut your immature thoughts cause thats not a solution.
Which brings me back to my people once again.

We are quite talented, from Indian dancers to singers, we have a whole lot of talent in Singapore, but look, we had to wait till 2008 to get a channel of our own.Speaks alot about, 'Regardless of race, language or religion.'
But I must say I am happy it finally came about.
Even Channel Suria was established long time ago.
Shall I move on to the next topic?
When I was 10, I used to see Indian women having their nose pierced and I saw that not many Non-Indians even thought it was nice.
But SERIOUSLY, look at the teenage girls now, the non-Indian ones are whom I am talking about.
Having their nose pierced even while being in a Secondary school.
Says alot more about my culture, traditions?
But where did all this originate from ?The Indians, India.
How come the Chinese people in Singapore can appreciate all these little things of ours but deny us of a JOB by simply saying 'We only want Chinese people' in a nicer way by stating, 'To be bilingual in English/Chinese.'
And, don't just think of this issue to be small and take this personally, look at this in a holistic view.

Heard of toe rings? The rings you see the teenagers nowadays wearing?
Well, it was from our tradition.
It came about from marriages.
When a woman and man are partners after a wedding we wear toe rings to indicate that they are married.
So that when people in India(Started from the days in India) walk down and see a lady or man they tend to look at their toes first, if they were wearing the rings they wouldnt even look up at them and continue walking.
Its a form of respect, a title to the married couple.
But see where the toe rings have gone to in SIngapore?
TO FASHION!
So happy - NOT.
I see so many teenagers wearing them, and all I do is laugh to myself knowing these people didnt know the purpose of these but am proud that even a toe ring out of my tradition has made it so far.
But where did all this originate from ?The Indians, India.
Shall i move on the next topic?
Materials,textiles.

Once upon a time, not much interest was given to our heavilydutied saries with so many rhinestones and was titled gordy, but now even some Muslims have started buying Sari material to sew into their own traditional wear.
This is something I am happy for.
But where did all this originate from ?The Indians, India.
I will continue and make my points across.
Next up will be our accessories.
Bangles,henna drawings, earrings.
Its nice to see Chinese girls wearing bangles, but where did they originate from?
You know the answer.
I know how the non-Indians adore henna drawing but again :But where did all this originate from ?The Indians, India.
Need I even go to my religion?
The increasing amount of Chinese who turn up for Thaipusam and the fire-walking ceremony in Singapore is enough to say that even that reaches out to them. And by turning up I am not speaking about on-lookers but those participating!!
This I am truly happy for.
But what about us?
How about us getting equal treatment and rights too?
We are the smallest population but the things we do and the practises we practice is huge.
From weddings to Deepavalis to Thaipusam everyone loves it!
But do we get that much of attention as our accessories do?
As our traditions do?
As our festivals do?
NOPE.
So I've decided.
I had this in me in a while.
If I ever run a company, I will have demands too, and no, it WONT be, 'Able to speak/write Tamil.'
But lets make it more Challenging, 'Able to speak/write GOOD English.'
Now thats a Challenge to the Non-Indians.
Its obvious on how we Indians speak English.
Its better than the English most Chinese speak only because Indians in Singapore communicate more in English than Tamil to the extent our Tamil board have tried SO many ways to make us speak more in Tamil by the numerous workshops, competition to promote tamil.
We are proud of our language we are, I am. But its also in us that we speak more English.
When I see people making fun of the way Indians speak English, it irritates me, I have a thousand other ways to poke fun at you but I wont. Cause that isnt me. That isnt what I have learnt being an Indian.
Yeah we shake our heads when we talk, we point when we talk.
At the end of the day our actions goes into your heads but not the words?
Well see for yourself how you can even remember the way an Indian talk but not remember that an Indian is also a human being as well.
But as much as all these happens I wouldnt pin-point to a Chinese but I would say thats how Singapore has been for the past years, and writing it down here makes me feel better so don't take it personally cause at the end of the days the Chinese in Singapore are way lucky than us minority.
But even then there are proud things we have established.
How the greatest criminal lawyer in Singapore,Mr.Subash Anand is an Indian.

How the greatest musician A.R Rahman is an Indian. He won the GOLDEN GLOBE FOR 'SLUMDOG' score.
How for the first ever time Annetha Ayyavoo brought back a title for modelling to Singapore, and yes being an Indian. - "In 1998, Annetha Ayyavoo, then 25, beat 58 models from around the world to clinch the top title."
How Ms.India will always make it to top 10/top 5 in Ms.World.

Aiswarya Rai, Sushmita Sen - Rings a bell?
And these things are done by Indians.
I used to tell my mum, 'Ma, why won't Singapore ever realise that sending an Indian who's gifted with so sharp and beautiful features to Ms.World?'
Why must it only be the Chinese? I was glad the year Nuraliza Osman won the title, for a change.
She was beautiful too! But despite us being dark, I can say for sure most Indian women are amazingly gorgeous.
Send an Indian, Singapore too has pretty Indian Women! We might make a difference.
If Ms.India has no problem making it to top 10 top 5 why Singapore a country 10 times better than India can't produce that?
That aside now, I am done, done ranting about all that I feel in MY blog so no hard feelings.
I will always respect everyone as one, being in this country, till I am in this country I will.
But maybe someday, we'll see light.
:)
